Originally a medieval Cistercian monastery, Newbattle Abbey has a 900-year history of welcoming royalty and privileged guests. Located a short distance from Edinburgh city centre, it offers 125 acres of peaceful parkland seclusion on the banks of the River Esk.

This unique, historic building is the perfect venue for meetings or conferences seating up to 120 theatre style, gala dinners for up to 88, and drinks receptions for up to 285 guests.

Unique venue
Six magnificent function rooms, all with views of the surrounding grounds, showcase the finest craftsmanship. The grand Drawing Room's ornate fresco ceiling is a breath-taking example of the work of Edinburgh architect, Thomas Bonnar. Lined with original artworks, the Mezzanine is an inspiring setting for drinks receptions, and can be combined with several other rooms for larger numbers.

Fascinating history
Scotland's future was shaped at the Abbey when the Declaration of Abroath was drafted here. Every room holds a story: the font in the Chapel believed to have been used to baptise Mary Queen of Scots; the secret staircase; and the vaulted Crypt. Private guided tours can be arranged for your guests.

Beautiful location
The estate grounds can be used for a wide range of team building activities, including falconry or Highland Games. There are several locations suitable for marquees for up to 300 guests.
